Communication and Interaction Team
Who are we?
Mia, Janine & Charlotte - Make up our on-site Communication and Interaction Team. They regularly hold sessions within our Communication Classroom for whole classes, smaller groups, and individual students. They work alongside class staff to support the communication and interaction needs of the students - this is done by providing individualised resources and advice.
Our Communication Team keep staff up-to-date with relevant training, as well as providing this for our parents and carers, local community transport staff, and other settings.
The team work closely with our Speech and Language Therapists, helping to implement strategies that have been recommended. Sessions we lead include; Segway and Steps groups (School Council), PECS support, AAC support, Attention Autism, Intensive Interaction, The Curiosity Program, Sensory Circuits, PECS sessions, Lego Club and Communication Club. As well as, supporting our Music specialist Jenny with ‘Signing Choir’ for the whole school on a Friday afternoon.
Jenny - is our music specialist who supports personal development, communication, behaviour and welfare with music. Jenny visits every class across the school and also provides some sessions of Music as Therapy for individual students. Jenny provides further support in school with seasonal projects, as well as aiding our cluster community by being the star of our annual signing video for the Sing Up Concert joint song.
Helen - is our School 2 School support coordinator. She visits other schools who reach out through the programme and will advise them on strategies that can be implemented for students who need additional communication support.
Emma - is an independent Speech and Language Therapist who we employ two days a week. She is a qualified Singalong tutor and ELKLAN course leader and provides training for staff within the school. These courses are also available for the wider community. Emma has introduced many strategies to the school including; Attention Autism, Colourful Semantics, Pictoys, Lego Club, and Call & Response story telling. Over the past year Emma's focus has been auditing each class communication environment and this year will be developing out use of Intensive Interaction. Currently Emma leads Sensory Drama sessions for our students with high level communication and sensory needs and is helping us to implement our Pre-Formal Curriculum.
Lily & Molly - are NHS Speech and Language Therapists who work within the school, to meet the needs of those students who have been referred to the NHS caseload. They work closely with the on-site team, parents/carers and professionals to ensure that student’s speech, language and communication needs are being fully met. Lily and Molly work throughout the school so that they can assess students, advise staff and implement strategies for individuals. Not all students are on the NHS caseload, if you haver any queries or if you require a referral this can be arranged through school or contacting the speech and language therapy service.
