Governance

Governors link the school with the community, and play a key role in the effectiveness of the school.  The governing board’s job is to look at all aspects of the school’s performance and ensure it is achieving its full potential as well as working with the Headteacher and Senior Management Team to provide strategic leadership and accountability.

Governors core strategic functions are:

  • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  • Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff.
  • Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

The Headteacher is a governor by virtue of office.  Co-opted governors and associate members are appointed by the governing board, the staff governor is elected by other staff members and parent governors are elected by parents/carers of children at the school.

All Governors are bound by the Governors Code of Conduct.

The term of office for all categories of governor is a fixed period of 4 years.

Our Governors

Wendy Alcock - Chair of Governors

I am delighted to be the Chair of Governors at Hall School and feel very privileged to be working with a very skilled and committed governing body and school staff team. The governing body works hard to support the Headteacher, the staff and the pupils with the aim of ensuring that Hall School is the best that it can be.

Our main focus will always be the young people attending the school.  It is them that are the priority and they always come first. Hard work, commitment and dedication have already put this school in a very good place. In the last full inspection (2014) the school was judged to be good. This was followed by a short inspection (2018) when it was stated the school continues to be good. It said that “all staff continue to work hard as a team” and that the communications team is “a particular strength of the school”. I along with all governors are fully committed and determined to not just sustain a good judgment but to lead the school to be outstanding in all areas.

Our team of governors provide support to the school in a number of ways, using our experiences from various backgrounds. We are there to provide strategic direction, to make sure that the schools performance is evaluated and continues to improve, to ensure legal obligations are met and to keep abreast of every challenge that comes our way. Most of all we are there because we care about our school and we want to succeed.

Hall School is always welcoming and the buzz of happy and enthusiastic young people is infectious. I hope that you can experience a little of this during your visit to our website but most of all we hope you have fun when you can visit us in person.

Kathryn Roe

Hello, I’m Kathryn and I am Clerk to the Governing Board for Hall School. I am employed by Educator Solutions (who are part of Norfolk County Council) as a Governance Professional and I have been clerking for Hall School since January 2021. Aside from my clerking role, I also work at INTO-UEA as a Programme Manager and prior to that I worked for Norfolk County Council in various finance related roles. Also, and most importantly, I am a mummy to my 2-year-old son, who certainly keeps me busy but also thoroughly entertained. In my very limited free time, I enjoy cross stitch, eating out and swimming. I am also keen to get back to taking holidays, there is so much of the world to see.

Bradley Sabberton-Coe - Co-opted Governor

My name is Bradley Sabberton-Coe and I have over forty years experience as a business man, I am Chairman of Old Catton Parish Council, Chairman of Catton Park and a trustee of Old Catton Village Hall. My interest in the local community gave me the opportunity to become a governor. I am a member of the finance, personnel and premises committee and use my experience to challenge and support decisions.

Stuart Lee

I have worked in the education sector for over 18 years and am currently a director of a small company specialising in privacy programme management and project management, with a focus on supporting the education sector.  Previous experience in the sector includes overseeing a large team; managing school information systems, exams, supply, data management, assessment and attendance. I have also previously been a company manager within a specialist behaviour support service company.

When not working, I am a keen cyclist, I enjoy gardening, walking, cooking and spending time with my family.

Claire Pett - Parent Governor
Hi my name is Claire Pett and I have been a Parent Governor here at Hall School since 2019. I really wanted to get involved with the school as my daughter Ellie attends. They have done a huge amount for her over the years and she has thrived so much and I am so grateful for the ongoing support we get.

Nick Asker

I am a mathematics specialist and have worked nationally and internationally on a variety of mathematics and special needs projects.
Revd. David Hagan-Palmer.
Although originally born in Middlesex I have been in Norfolk and particularly Norwich, for about thirty-two years.  I am currently the Vicar of St. Margaret’s Church in Old Catton and have been here for just over two years; prior to Old Catton I was in the Bure Valley near Aylsham.  Alongside the work of being a Vicar and a School Governor I am also Chaplain to the Norwich Squadron of the Air Training Cadets, Chaplain to the East Anglian Air Ambulance and Chair of the Sprowston Youth Engagement Project (alongside various other groups I am part of and roles that I have).
